A&S Competitions, Contests and Displays

For Gulf Wars XXVII, we have multiple A&S competitions scheduled for your enjoyment. There may be others that didn’t make it in for publication, so keep your eyes open for on-site ads.

Rose Social and Equestrian Arts & Sciences Competition (with Youth!)
Time: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Location: Equestrian Arena 2 (concurrent with the Wood Joust competition)

Description: Ladies of the Rose will be treated to a Social catered by Lord Pedro Vizcaina, and asked to oversee a small A&S Competition: “Horseplay in Any Medium: the Arts Equestrian”. This will be a contest of arts and sciences inspired by the Arts Martial Equestrian: for the Cavalry or Joust, Barding or Caparisons, noble favours embellished for the riders on the field of battle, ecranches, helm crests, Livery, Tack, Illumination, or Portraiture. All contestants will be gifted a small token, and the winner shall receive a $50 shopping credit for Crafty Celts (or another Merchant as yet unannounced).

This competition and social shall take place during the Wood Joust Tournament at the Equestrian field, Arena 2, and will also feature a Youth Presentation to the Ladies of the Rose, all while cheering on our noble riders and steeds as they Joust in honor of their Inspirations and their Kingdoms.

8 a.m. Registration and set up begin
10 a.m. Judging begins Performing Arts entries begin in the A&S tent outside Bede Hall.
1 p.m. Hall opens to populace. Champions are encouraged to stand with their entries for discussions.
Performers may choose to perform again during the populace viewing time.
3-4 pm. Pick up entries

Inter-Kingdom Brewing Guild’s Brewing and Vintning Competition
Time: 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Location: A&S Tent Bede Hall Plaza

Details: Entrants must be at least 21 years of age and are encouraged to stay and watch the judging. You may also visit the IKBG’s unofficial external website*. The link will open a new window:

Meridies-Gleann Abhann Open A&S
Time: 8:00 am – 3:00 pm

Details: The Open A&S is open to all, regardless of skill level or kingdom affiliation. There is no particular separation into categories (other than for SCA Life, see below). Entries may have appeared at other A&S events at this war, or in other faires. Both static and performing arts are welcome. Documentation is required may be very minimal or very extensive. . There will be populace voting to help determine the overall winner and there will also be individual sponsors offering prizes.

8:00-9:30am Set Up
10:00am-3:00pm – Static judging (by populace)
10:00 Performing arts set up, Judging runs from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00pm
3:30pm all winners announced

A&S Gulf Wars War Point Discussion
Time: 4-5:00pm
Location: Bede Hall/Bede Hall A&S tent (bring a chair)
Details: Laurels and the populace invited to to discuss the proposed procedures for future A&S war point competitions.


Bardic Competitions – Become a Gulf Wars Bard! Adult (15+) and Youth (6-12) competitions available.
European Dance – Seven Heavenly Virtues or Seven Deadly Sins costume contest (prizes for best Lord and best Lady)
Gulf Wars Scholars Challenge – Recognition for taking at least 6 classes at the war – Special this year – take/teach 25 classes to be a GWXXV scholar!
Artisan’s Row Sheep to Purse Competition – Fee $10 for 6-8oz wool, make a purse at war! See entry display on Friday afternoon!
