Early Period Life
Early Period Life class area is located at the end of Queen’s Highway on the right side of the road. EPL offers a wide variety of classes focused on Western Europe pre-1066. In addition to the Rusty Anvil Smithy, Kildonnen Longhall and covered permanent general class shelter, there will be a cooking area with braziers and bread oven, a fire arts area with plenty of space for metal casting and much more.
After a resoundingly positive response last year, EPL is excited to continue to offer open forum meetings. These will be two hour blocks of time, or longer, where a person will come and share their knowledge in an informal open discussion on a broad subject. This is not your average "sit down and learn to do something" class. This is an open exchange of knowledge and information with no structured specifics. Everyone seems to know that "go to" person for research, metal work, leather work, fiber arts, cooking, armor or armaments, or whatever subject. Now is your opportunity to talk to some of the experts. Ask questions, participate in the discussion, or find a new interest.
There will be an open demonstration day on Wednesday. Skilled artisans will be available from 9am to 5pm to share their knowledge, expertise and answer questions. Visitors are welcome to tour Kildonnen Longhall and the class area as well as the Bastermark camping space past the longhall. Please keep in mind that the tents are not part of the EPL Class Area so although all are welcome to view and enjoy their encampment, the Basternae, House Telemark, and their friends would appreciate it if you would please ask before photographing or entering anyone’s tent.
The EPL cannot offer such a great class schedule without help from wonderful volunteers like you. If you have a class in mind or expertise on a subject related to pre-1066 not only for Norse but Norman, Roman, Rus, Germanic, Irish, or any of their historical neighbors please contact the class coordinator to be added to the schedule.
Thank you.
